Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise in the management, design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) programs.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Evaluate the impact of new and existing EH&S regulations on operations and implement required program changes.
- Serve as a primary liaison with EH&S regulatory agencies and coordinate regulatory inspections and audits.
- Prepare regulatory reports, agency responses, monitoring documentation, and compliance records.
- Design, develop, implement, and maintain EH&S programs that support daily operations and business objectives.
- Assess EH&S practices and processes to minimize operational risks and long-term liabilities.
- Develop and deliver EH&S training programs for employees and contractors.
- Create, implement, and maintain EH&S procedures, policies, and operational documentation.
- Evaluate the EH&S impact of new operations, processes, and capital projects.
- Identify and implement cost-effective solutions to reduce environmental impacts and safety risks.
- Design and conduct internal EH&S audits and inspections to verify compliance and program effectiveness.
- Monitor corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) and ensure timely closure of audit findings.
- Provide technical support for cross-functional projects requiring EH&S expertise.
- Act as a recognized subject matter expert (SME) in Environmental Health & Safety programs.
- Make independent decisions with significant impact on assigned programs and areas of responsibility.
- Supervise technical support personnel, when required.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to environmental, health, and safety performance.
- Support business operations by aligning EH&S programs with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications & Preferred Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) or a related technical field preferred.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), and OSHA certifications are highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of EH&S regulations, industry standards, and risk management principles applicable to construction, engineering, and manufacturing environments.
- Experience supporting capital projects and equipment installations within regulated industrial, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or manufacturing facilities preferred.
- Working knowledge and experience in:
- Process Safety Management (PSM)
- Pre-Start-Up Safety Reviews (PSSR)
- Management of Change (MOC)
- Hazardous and Compressed Gas Systems
- Pressure Safety Programs
- Machine Safeguarding
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Construction Safety
- Fire and Life Safety Systems
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), equipment layouts, and technical specifications.
- Ability to support project activities during equipment shutdowns, startups, and other activities that may occur outside normal business hours.
- Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic EH&S management systems.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize workload effectively.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, contractors, engineering groups, and operations personnel.
