Utilities Group Leader

Carolina, Puerto Rico - Full Time

Responsibilities:

  • Determine schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment and skill of personnel.
  • Schedule, assign, and monitor work of assigned personnel.
  • Patrol and monitor work areas and examine tools and equipment in order to detect unsafe conditions or violations of procedures or safety rules.
  • Monitor employees' work levels and review work performance.
  • Complete required documentation and report problems and concerns to Utility Supervisor.
  • Counsel employees about work-related issues and assist employees to correct job-skill deficiencies.
  • Requisition materials and supplies, such as tools, equipment, and replacement parts.
  • Perform boiler maintenance such as: adjustment of stokers, greasing and oiling equipment.
  • Perform necessary preventive maintenance of equipment utilized to produce steam and chilled water for campus heating and cooling such as: Replacing worn parts, lubricating equipment, and vibration analysis.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues such as: equipment breakdown, electrical failures and operational upsets and make necessary repairs.
  • Installation of new equipment such as: pumps, valves, piping, etc.
  • Participate in mandatory training sessions related to Utility Systems.
  • Act as mentor and conduct on-the-job training of new personnel.
  • Act as lead responder in emergency situations and work quickly to correct the problem(s).
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor/management, and/or client to support normal operations at the department.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications Requirements/Knowledge/Education/Skills:

  • Technical College Degree, associate degree preferred.
  • Proven track of Utility Maintenance verifiable experience in performing and leading preventative maintenance work with utility systems.
  • Active Drivers Licensed awarded by the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico 

Physical Requirements and Working Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate equipment's, tools, or controls.  The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk, or hear; sit; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and smell.  The employee may lift and/or move up to 25-35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • He / she may frequently work inside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts, exposed to wet and or humid conditions, and an odorous atmosphere, may be exposed to fumes and the risk of electrical shock, and occasionally work on ladders in high places, in small spaces, such as lift/metering stations, manholes, tanks and wet wells.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.
